2009-2010 Season Notes
Welcome to the Coro de Cámara (New Mexico) website. We are, as one of our singers says, "a very interesting group of people." Diverse in education, employment, choral music opportunities, and life, we consider Coro de Cámara to be an experience in chamber choral music not to be missed in live performance.
Coro de Cámara is truly a chorus of the room (or chamber) as our Spanish name translates. A group of sixteen to twenty-four vocalists, depending on the repertoire of the season and availability of singers, this ensemble will take you to places that will change the way you hear and understand choral music.
This year, our 27th season, is going to be another exciting one for us! Each year we strive to reach new heights of excellence in programming and performance, and, if attendance is any indication, your response is a very enthusiastic "yes!"
On December 4 and 5, 2009, we will present another wonderful Christmas program entitled "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year." These concerts will feature popular Christmas songs, such as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Silver Bells," accompanied by piano, bass and drums. Some of these pieces are perennial audience and singer favorites and some will be new to many of us, including our singers.
We will perform our Los Alamos concert on Friday, December 4th, at the Fuller Lodge. Our Santa Fe concert venue for Saturday evening has yet to be determined. Both evening concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. (Please note that these December concerts are Friday and Saturday, rather than our usual Saturday and Sunday.)
In April 2010, we will sing folk songs and spirituals in a concert called "Let the River Run." The first half of these performances will feature folk songs arranged by some of contemporary choral music's most innovative and interesting choral arrangers and composers. Spirituals, featuring arrangements by Rollo Dilworth and Moses Hogan, will comprise the second half of the programs.
Our Los Alamos concert will be presented in the new Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 24th, at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, we will be performing at Christ Church Santa Fe in their, also new, Worship Arts Center, April 25th, at 2:30 p.m. Unlike previous seasons, we will not be selling tickets in advance this Spring, taking the opportunity instead to invite the community at large and accepting donations at the door to help keep choral music alive in Northern New Mexico.
