2011-2012 Season Notes
Welcome to the Coro de Cámara (New Mexico) website. We are, as one of our singers says, “a very interesting group of people.” Diverse in education, employment, choral music opportunities, and life, we consider Coro de Cámara to be an experience in chamber choral music not to be missed in live performance. This year marks our 29th season.
After eight exciting years with director Catherine Robinson, we welcome three accomplished guest directors as we determine who will lead Coro de Camara into our 30th season and beyond.
For our first concert of the 2011/2012 season, we welcome Karen Marrolli. Karen received her DMA in choral conducting from Louisiana State University and her MM from Westminster Choir College. Marrolli’s choral works have been published through Morningstar and Colla Voce.
For our second concert of the 2011/2012 season, we welcome Steve Paxton. An accomplished composer and conductor, Steve currently serves as Chair of the Contemporary Music Department at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design.
For our third concert of the 2011/2012 season, we welcome Jeff Brown. Not only has Jeff performed internationally as a jazz and classical pianist, but Jeff currently serves as Composer-In-Residence at the Santa Fe Opera and Artist-In-Residence at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
On November 5 and 6, 2011, we present an inspiring program entitled “Visions of New Life.” Karen Marrolli’s program honors life-affirming journeys in the face of suffering and loss. Journeys that continually surprise us, mystify us, and beckon us forward into new life. We are pleased to be joined by a string quartet for this performance: Carla Kontoupes and Karina Wilson, violin, Gail Robertson, viola, Chase Morrison, cello. Among the treasures offered will be Bach’s Cantata 4, “Christ Lag In Todesbanden” as well as the world premiere of Marrolli’s “Desert Faith Mass.”
We will perform our Los Alamos concert on Saturday afternoon, November 5th at 4:00 p.m. at United Church on 2525 Canyon Road. Our Santa Fe concert Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. is at First Presbyterian Church on 208 Grant Avenue. Please join us!
