2008-2009
Season Notes
Welcome
to the Coro de Cámara (New Mexico)
website. We are, as one of our singers says, a "very
interesting group of people." Diverse in education,
employment, choral music opportunities, and life, we
consider Coro de Cámara to be an experience in
chamber choral music not to be missed in live performance.
Coro
de Cámara is truly a chorus of the chamber (or
room) as our Spanish name translates. A group of sixteen
to twenty-four vocalists, depending on the repertoire
of the season and availability of singers, this ensemble
will take you to places that will change the way you
hear and understand choral music.
This
year, our 26th season, is going to be another exciting
season for us! Each year we strive to reach new heights
of excellence in performance and programming, and if
attendance is any indication, your response is a very
enthusiastic “yes!”
On
December 6th and 7th, 2008, we will present a wonderful
Christmas concert entitled “CAROLING, CAROLING:
A Choral Concert of Christmas Carols.” This performance
will feature non-traditional arrangements of traditional
carols…including jazz, gospel, and mixed meter
arrangements by Doug Andrews, Jack Schrader, Mark Hayes
and others. Songs include a jazz swing arrangement of "We
Three Kings," a jazz ballad in 4/4 time of "The
First Nowell," and gospel arrangements of "Angels
from the Realm of Glory” and "O Holy Night.” On Saturday, December 6th, we will present the Los Alamos
concert at the United
Church (2525 Canyon Road) at 7:00
pm. On Sunday, December 7th, we will present the Santa
Fe concert at 2:30 pm at Our
Lady of Guadalupe Church (the Santuario de Guadalupe), located at the corner of
Agua Fria and Guadalupe Streets.
Each
of these arrangements will likely become your “new
favorite” version of a beloved Christmas carol – they
are absolutely gorgeous arrangements! And for those of you
that live “on the hill”, I’d also like
to note that this will be the ONLY Christmas concert presented
in the Los Alamos area this season, so you certainly won’t
want to miss this opportunity to get the Christmas season
off to a joyous start. I do so hope you can join us! |
